Delft, Netherlands

If you’re visiting the Netherlands, this cozy town between The Hague and Rotterdam is not to be missed. Take a stroll along the many small canals and admire the city’s beautiful architecture. Beauty is also deeply rooted in Delft’s history: It is the hometown of the Baroque painter Vermeer (‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’) and the origin of ‘Delft Blue’, a famous blue and white pottery.

Maribor, Slovenia

With a population of just under 100,000, Maribor is Slovenia’s second largest city. Start your city walk on Glavni trg, the main square in the charming old town. A few minutes away you can find the Maribor Castle which houses the Regional Museum. In summer, Lent Festival, the largest open-air festival in Slovenia brings music to the city. The festival has a long tradition: According to the organizers, almost every fourth Slovenian has been to the festival already. Even in the colder months Maribor is worth a visit: With ski slopes in the Pohorje Mountains just outside the city, it’s the perfect insider tip for winter sports fans.

Kaunas, Lithuania

This gem in the centre of Lithuania is a city of contrasts: Made up of the Old Town and the New Town, you can discover exciting architecture ranging from Gothic to Bauhaus influences here. Kaunas is also known for its many museums, including the Kaunas Castle, an old atomic bunker or a museum dedicated to the Lithuanian composer and artist Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. If you’ve ever wanted to travel back in time, the two funiculars in Kaunas are for you: they are among the oldest of their kind in the world. Žaliakalnis funicular takes you to the Christ’s Resurrection Church, a huge basilica with an accessible roof. Aleksotas funicular takes you to the hilltop of the Aleksotas hill where you can overlook the Old Town from an observation deck.

Dundee, Scotland
Dundee, located on Scotland’s east coast is a vibrant city that offers a blend of culture and history. It’s known as the ‘city of discovery’ because of the RRS Discovery, the ship that took Captain Scott to Antarctica. In 2014, it became the UK’s first UNESCO City of Design, recognized for its contribution to fields like video game design, medical research and comics. Kingston upon Hull, England

Dunfermline, Scotland
Located in Fife, Scotland, Dunfermline provides a mix of fascinating heritage, stunning architecture and beautiful greenery. It was once the capital of Scotland and retains its importance as a royal and historic town. The Dunfermline Abbey and Palace is a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture and part of Scotland’s history since the 11th century.

Darmstadt, Germany

This small university town holds the official title of ‘City of Science’. Only 20 kms from Frankfurt, Darmstadt is home to the UNESCO World Heritage ‘Mathildenhöhe’. The Mathildenhöhe along with the magnificent Russian Chapel is a true sight to see. Darmstadt is also known for the famous Technical University which is over 150 years old and is one of the leading technical universities in the world. Enjoy a walk in the city garden called Herrngarten or visit Hofgut Oberfeld – a farm in the city to watch the cows grazing in the pasture. There you can also buy artisanal cheese, coffee and homemade cake.

Karwar, India

Karwar is a naval town along the Arabian sea coastline. It is a multicultural destination with the population speaking Marathi, Kannada and Konkani languages. You can spot dolphins at the Kurumgad island, a 45-minute boat ride from the main city. Karwar is a haven for seafood lovers, the coastal Karnataka cuisine that you will find here is truly incredible. When you’re done taking in the breeze from the beaches that the town has to offer, you can make your way for a trek to the Guddalli Peak, one of the tallest peaks of the Haidarghat mountain range. The peak offers a splendid top view of the River Kali, River Belikeri and the Arabian Sea at a distance.
