Nyon / Munich, 23rd October 2024 – Flix, a global leader in travel technology, is proud to announce it is now an official partner of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League for the next three seasons, from 2024 to 2027.

Building on the immense popularity of UEFA’s competitions, the partnership aims to motivate as many people as possible to travel sustainably and collectively, while ensuring that everyone has the possibility to attend events like these with affordable bus and train tickets.

As an official UEFA partner of the two competitions, Flix will continue to inspire fans and all those who want to become fans. Through the new partnership, Flix will raise awareness of sustainable, collective travel across various touchpoints, from advertising and stadium visibility to fan-driven promotions, including raffles, discounts for rides to the stadium, and more. The partnership between Flix and UEFA is built on shared values and a mutual commitment to sustainability and accessibility across Europe. Flix promotes greater accessibility to matches by offering affordable mobility options via trains and buses to most of the participating cities while reducing the environmental impact of travel through collective transport. In the last two seasons, Flix has already been connecting over 130 participating cities[1], many of which are small towns that lack direct access to long-distance transport.[2]

“We are proud to be an official partner of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League. Sport connects people just like Flix does. We started 11 years ago in Germany and are now present in 44 countries worldwide. This partnership exemplifies our ambition to make sustainable travel accessible for everyone – whether for a trip to see family and friends or to cheer on their favourite football team,” said André Schwämmlein, CEO and co-founder of Flix.

Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA marketing director, said: “We are excited to partner with Flix, a company that connects communities across Europe through collective means of transport and shares our vision for a more sustainable future. Whether fans are travelling for a thrilling UEFA Europa League or UEFA Conference League match or planning an extended stay, we’re making it easier for them to experience the magic of football at iconic stadiums in beautiful cities in Europe.”

Combining Sports and Sustainable Travel

Football and collective travel options are closely linked, as both promote a sense of community and bring people together from different walks of life, cultures and backgrounds. As the world’s most popular sport, football regularly draws crowds to stadiums from all around the world. Collective travel modes such as long-distance buses and trains – plays a central role by facilitating access to matches and allowing large groups to travel together, fostering a sense of community that already begins on the journey to the stadium. Collective transport at sports events helps to promote sustainability: When fans choose to travel collectively, CO2 emissions are significantly reduced compared to other means of transportation[3] which has a remarkable impact on the environment in the context of major football tournaments.
