Flix continues profitable growth journey in Latin America: Launching Peru and Mexico in 2025

+++ Latin America as an attractive growth market for long-distance buses

+++ Expanding with a tech-driven approach and a reliable service

+++ 12 years of Flix: Biggest bus markets are yet to come

Munich, February 16, 2025 – Flix SE, a global travel-tech leader, announces entering the Peruvian market in 2025, further expanding its presence in Latin America. The company already operates in Brazil and Chile and previously announced plans to launch in Mexico.

Growing the Latin American bus market by introducing a tech-driven model

“Latin America presents a tremendous opportunity for us,” says André Schwämmlein, CEO and co-founder of Flix. “With limited rail infrastructure and flights connecting only major cities, buses are the backbone of transportation. The market, worth around €18 billion, is more than four times the size of North America and Europe combined. Our success in Brazil and Chile proves that our model works. With Peru and Mexico, we are now taking the next step.”

Flix has been operating in Latin America since 2021, achieving strong growth. In Brazil, the company has expanded its network from 27 to over 100 cities in just three years. In Chile, Flix now connects 14 cities across eight regions, providing mobility services to nearly 70% of the population. Throughout the continent, Flix is setting new standards with its tech-driven business model, further promoting a consistent and reliable offering to travellers.

A proven global recipe, paired with local expertise

Augusto Abarca will lead the local team, working with SME bus companies all over the country. “I’m excited to bring Flix to my home country and transform the long-distance bus market”, says Abarco. “We will offer the best value-for-money, providing customers with a reliable service and a superior, digital booking experience. Our goal is to build a nationwide network.”

12 years of Flix: Global expansion fuelled by tech

This February, Flix celebrates its 12th anniversary since the first buses left from Munich, Germany. Over the past decade, the company has built a global network across Europe, North America, India, and Latin America, turning around a sector by incepting its tech-based approach: “From the start, our ambition was to grow internationally,” says Schwämmlein.

“We established Flix across Europe and only five years after launch, we started in the US. With Latin America and Asia, the big bus markets are yet to come. Europe and North America, each have a market size of about €2bn. With a global market size of more than €70bn, the long-distance bus market offers plenty of opportunities for us.”
