Flix launches ChatGPT travel app and opens AI tools across its workforce

On 10 June 2026, Flix launched an app inside ChatGPT that lets travelers search, compare and plan FlixBus and FlixTrain journeys through natural conversation, its first customer-facing step into conversational AI. The company has also been expanding AI tools across its own workforce, beginning with its first large-scale internal AI Day. The two moves mark Flix applying AI on two fronts: how customers find and book travel, and how the company itself works. Both build on a tech platform that Flix has developed in-house as the foundation of its asset-light business model — and that already runs the operational core of a network spanning 45 countries, with more than 8,700 destinations.

ChatGPT app adds conversational search as a booking channel

The Flix app is available globally through ChatGPT’s Apps section, where users search for FlixBus. It responds in every language Flix supports and directs travelers to the booking site for their market, covering FlixBus and FlixTrain connections across Europe, North America, Türkiye, South America and Asia-Pacific. The launch positions conversational AI as a new distribution channel alongside traditional search, which still accounts for most travel bookings today.

“The best companies are not just the ones that are able to integrate AI internally, but also to sell their products where customers want to interact with them via AI,” said André Schwämmlein, co-founder and CEO of Flix, describing the ChatGPT app as a natural new channel that he expects to grow as more customers book through AI.

AI tools extended to all office-based employees

On the internal side, Flix has extended AI tools well beyond its engineering teams. In May 2026 it held its first large-scale internal AI Day, where around 900 employees across 35 countries joined workshops and hands-on sessions, and teams built more than 70 working prototypes in a single day, aimed at internal processes, automation, productivity and customer experience, according to figures shared by Schwämmlein on LinkedIn.

Employees were given access to Claude Code at that stage. The company has since made Claude Cowork available to every office-based employee, extending everyday AI use beyond technical teams. Flix’s CEO said the goal is to be an AI-fluent company in which everyone, not only engineers, works comfortably with AI, on the view that fluency comes from hands-on use.

AI and machine learning already underpin parts of the business, including network planning, demand forecasting, customer service and operations. Managing a network spanning 45 countries and more than 8,700 destinations is too complex to plan or manage without machine learning, and Flix’s proprietary tools cover demand forecasting, schedule optimization and pricing across all markets.
