FlixBus takes its first step in Peru with local partner Pominpro

Pominpro, a Peruvian transport company of Grupo Polo, begins interprovincial bus service on 25 September in partnership with FlixBus, connecting Lima and Trujillo – with a stop in Chimbote along the northern coastal corridor. The new service marks FlixBus’s entry into Peru, its 46th country of operation, third market in South America after Brazil and Chile, and fourth in Latin America including Mexico.

Pominpro brings 18 years of experience in urban and private passenger transport in Peru. It operates the new route under the corresponding authorizations of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), with its own buses and professional drivers trained to FlixBus standards. FlixBus contributes its sales channels, including flixbus.pe and the FlixBus app, permanent driver support from its traffic control center, incident response protocols, and centralized customer service that assists passengers before, during, and after their trip.

“We have been moving people for years, and we know what it means to do it responsibly. Entering the interprovincial sector hand in hand with FlixBus lets us bring the standard we wanted for our passengers,” said Polo Pérez, President of Grupo Polo.

The partnership follows the model FlixBus uses across its network: local operators run their fleets and daily operations, and FlixBus provides the technology, commercial reach, and service standards that help them grow.

Why Peru matters for Flix

The bus is the main way to travel between cities in Peru. According to the latest available data from the national transport regulator SUTRAN, interprovincial road transport carried 96.4 million passengers in 2024, 26.9 million of them in the northern zone where the new route operates. Tourism adds further demand along the corridor, with destinations such as Chan Chan and Huanchaco. The new service expands the formal offer on a high demand route and joins a global network of over 8,700 destinations in 46 countries on five continents, that has carried more than 500 million passengers since launch.

“Peru is a strategic market for our expansion in Latin America: a large country where the bus is the main way to travel between cities and where tourism moves millions of people every year. We come with a long-term commitment and with the model that has helped bus companies grow in Brazil, Chile and Mexico, now together with Peruvian operators such as Pominpro,” said André Schwämmlein, co-founder and CEO of Flix.

More connections are planned for the coming months, operated by other local companies, with the goal of linking Peru’s main cities.
