World Sustainable Transport Day: Flix is ready to continue sustainable growth in 2026

+++ Around one third of Flix cities worldwide have less than 20,000 inhabitants: coaches are a key resource for mobility to small centers, often in remote areas.

+++ Nearly 120 Flix coaches run on alternatives to Diesel, +30% compared to 2024.

+++ Flix wins The EUPD Group’s Excellence award for transparent sustainable reporting.

Munich, November 26th, 2025 – On World Sustainable Transport Day, Flix unveils plans for sustainable growth in 2026: at the core, lies increased network connectivity and progressive fleet transformation.

Collective travel by coach to empower remote areas and support the EU’s tourism strategy

In one year, Flix increased its global network by 33%. On the company’s channels, it is now possible to buy tickets to more than 8,000 destinations in 45 countries. Of the stops connected by the Flix network, around one third are in towns with less than 20,000 inhabitants, often in remote areas and either poorly or not connected by trains, which makes coaches a vital resource for the mobility of residents. In 2026, the company plans to strengthen its network further, to the benefit of citizens who live in these regions.

“We think that everyone should be enabled to travel, no matter where they live or what their spending power is. With our offer of affordable, collective mobility, we have already made it easier for millions of passengers across more than 40 countries – and more will hop on the ride as we extend our service to new regions.”, says André Schwämmlein, CEO and Co-Founder of Flix.

Moreover, Flix’s plans to scale up existing networks at competitive prices resonate with the EU’s up-coming 2026 Sustainable Tourism Strategy. [1]  The strategy will notably tackle overcrowding in tourist hotspots and improve cross-border connectivity across destinations. Therefore, Flix’s efforts to in-crease mobility across markets can contribute to shaping a competitive, sustainable, and inclusive tourism model that can support Europe’s environmental goals and benefit the local communities and remote areas.

Fleet transformation remains the backbone of Flix’s journey toward Net Zero

Currently, nearly 120 FlixBus coaches at world level are running on alternative drives like electricity or biofuel, resulting in lower CO2 emissions compared to Diesel operations on the same routes.

This is part of the fleet transformation process that Flix is pursuing within the framework of the Sci-ence-based Targets initiative (SBTi), with near-term targets for decarbonization set for 2032.

While some of these solutions are still hard to scale up for technological as well as infrastructural rea-sons, Flix is determined to investigate their potential further in 2026 with selected industry partners.

Meanwhile, coaches remain a comparatively low carbon-emitting alternative to planes and private cars, helping travelers reduce their individual carbon footprint by up to ten and five times respectively and performing almost at the same level as intercity trains in most geographies.2

The EUPD Group acknowledges Flix as a Leading Company in its industry for transparent sustainable reporting

Today, the market research company EUPD Group will crown Flix with the status of Excellence and recognize it as a Leading Company in the ESG Transparency Award 2025 with a total score of 87,98/100.

Flix’s commitment to transparency was visible earlier this year as the company published its third ESG report, including over 200 indicators and grounded in a double materiality assessment in line with the CSRD guidelines and ESRS standards. As an early adopter of this framework, Flix wants to contribute to a more transparent and comparable ESG landscape within its industry, partners, and regulators.

“We are proud to be recognized for transparent sustainability reporting. As we expand globally, our responsibility grows with us. We are committed to turning that scale into real value for the communities we serve. The EUPD Group’s recognition reinforces what drives us at Flix: building a global network that grows sustainably — and proves it.”, André Schwämmlein comments.
